There's no quick and easy way that I know of.

A year ago I built a similar system that used Acrobat Approval 5. This system was so limited when it came to printer controls that we had to get the cheques pre-printed with the micr. We would then load up the Lexmark laser printers with this pre-printed paper.

I know that Acrobat 6 and 7 have added a lot of new functionality to the print parameters with Javascript. You can programmatically switch printers with Javascript in these versions. This may be all you need, but if you need to deal with different paper sizes (switching paper trays on the fly), or with custom sizes, things could get a bit tricky. You'll have to read the AcroJS.pdf file to see what's available for controlling print parameters and if these meet your needs.

Success may also depend on your printer and printer driver. We discovered that the Lexmark printer we were using had infrared sensors in the paper trays. These effectively overrode any manual changes we made to the printer trays. So for example we could manually override the paper size setting for a certain tray by pulling out certain pins from the side of the paper tray...but it was a waste of time because the infrared sensor could detect any tampering we were doing manually.

We discovered that things were easier with HP printers.
