Power BI connection - flatten command

I would like to understand how FLATTEN feature work. While connecting to Power BI it should be put like that?

Then thanks to that I can work with nested tables from Data Lake without the need to make them flat?

The other solution which I think about is flattening the Data Lake tables using the Query Service, putting them in Accelerated Store and then they are useable by Power BI. Is it correct way of thinking?
