Very low Total Session Length compared to number of Users

Hi,

I am looking at some of the overview metrics in our mobile marketing site. When I select data for the last week, it shows a Total Session Length of 24.63 minutes and number of Users is 3,757. With so many users one would expect a much higher Total Session Length. Unless users install the app, open it, never use it and close or put it in the back ground immediately.

However....the Average Session Length is mentioned as 2.23 minutes. But if I multiply Average Session Length by number of Users (as each User is at least 1 session), the Total Session Length should be nearer to (2.23 * 3,757 8,378 minutes (~139 hours), not 24.63 minutes.

Is it possible the Users is misinterpreted ? Could these users have logged in last week, session has been closed (causing low Total Session Length), but Adobe still counts them as a User ?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Regards

Robert

Hi Robert,

There must be an issue with your lifecycle implementation for your app.

Which SDK version are you using and have you followed the required steps to implement lifecycle tracking on your app ?

Best regards.

Hi,

I would recommend you to look at the bounces , single page visits, single access numbers and try to figure out what those 3757 users are doing. Also do check what 'Timeout Value' has been set for the app. That may help us figure out exactly what is happening. If those numbers are low, it might point towards a discrepancy.

Thanks.

Hi Tanmay,

Thanks for your reply. I have checked some of the items you mentioned.

Data for 1 day (29 Sep 2015)

- Page views looks normal, approx on average 750-1000 pages per hour

- Visits looks normal, approx on average 100 per hour

- Time spent per Visit looks normal, 800 visits in the 1-5 min bucket, 750 visits in the less than 1 min bucket, 250 visits in both the 5-10 and 10-30 min buckets each.

However, in the mobile marketing site it shows the Total Session Length is 10 seconds, Average Session Length is 1 second. I just did a check for today's data and it shows 0 seconds for both Total Session Length and Average Session Length.

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi Robert,

Please find attached a PDF with the explanation on how session length is calculated.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Please be aware that a session in Adobe mobile services id DIFFERENT from a VISIT in Adobe Analytics!

Hi Tanmay,

Thanks for the document but it doesn't make sense regardless of what the logic is.

If I look at today's data, I see 14,000 Page Views, 1,300 Users and 0 (zero!) Total Session Length (and 0 Average Session Length) and only 1 Launch !!

Any idea what could be wrong ? Could the SDK have been implemented incorrectly ?

Thanks

Robert
