Need Solution to Quickly Copy and Paste Content into the Editor FAST

Hi there,

This is my first post ever, on any site! So here it goes...

Background: I know AEM and used it to author, migrate and manage content for a while for a couple of clients. I am familiar with most of it's robust functionality, but at a point where I have no more time to keep testing and performing trial and error examples. There is a deadline, I'm spinning my wheels and no more time or resources to modify CSS or ask for modifications or suggest efficient alternatives. So I have what I have and need to make it work with its current functionality and access/permissions level. (Just mentioning it so you know I've been down this avenue already).

I am working as a contractor for a client that needs to create 200 pages on various topics in English and French. The source content is coming from Word docs, in both English and French, and every single doc has heavy formatting and styles, with bullets, indents, sub-bullets, tables, horizontal lines, bold, italic, you name it. I am having problems using IE, so I am working in Chrome.

Problem: A typical copy and paste from Word into the component's editor, is not working out. I've tried every possible way (paste as Word, paste as Text, Paste Regular, Paste as Rich Text Format, Paste from Notepad, etc). When you hit OK and view the page, everything looks crazy. Even copying from Notepad and removing all bullets (by manual back spacing delete and hitting Enter) then reapply the bullets in the Editor is becoming an issue because it's soooo time consuming. By the time I create a new page, add the title, component, paste content, reformat and apply styles, preview, go into source code and clean up any garbage tags or code, this is going painfully SLOW! Recreating tables is a nightmare(and I thought people are trying to move away from using tables, and consider tablets and smart phone users but that's a whole other topic...I mentioned it already).

Now, the client wants to know why I've only been able to get X amount completed. Bottom line, I need to find an alternative to migrating this content over by eliminating some steps( like notepad?) or get smart with exporting the word doc to something I'm unfamiliar with. I am very concerned because I need this job!! I need to stay on target with my hours and using my personal time to figure this out.  I also asked and suggested using the Importer function to Import or Bulk Import from Offline File (?) forget exactly what it is called but I thought it would save time but the developers have no more time to configure templates or the CSS so consider that not an option.

Lastly, I have to type the same 3 Phrases and hyperlinks into the footer on every single page. It's a total room for manual error but I've asked to automate that 3 times and was told no, just enter it.  Any tips or tricks to copy paste this on multiple pages. ( maybe a find and replace across the folder ( if I even have access permission to do this)? Just thought of that now!) Hot Keys? Anything?

So that's my story. I hope someone can help. I am hoping if I can efficiently complete this project they will extend my time and use me for the roll out in other regions or departments! Help! I need this job badly!

Hi, to be honest cannot see much of a solution for the copy-pasting issues from your Word documents, as the problem actually lies in the richness of the documents you've been provided with. In regards to repeatable footer on every page - Couldn't you just create a sample page with all the repeatable content filled in, and treat it as a starting point for every other page (just copy-paste your sample page in site-admin instead of creating brand new one each time). To be honest I completely don't understand how did it get to a point where you have to configure the same thing on each and every page (that should have been dealt with during development of templates/pages).

Good luck!

cut
copy
paste-default
paste-plaintext
paste-wordhtml

Try this out:

- Open the Word document in Microsoft Word.

- Click File or the Office button (depending on your version of Word).

- Choose Save As.

- Under the Save As type drop-down menu, choose Web Page, Filtered.

- Under Save In, select the folder where you would like to save the file.

- Now, open the saved file using a browser

- Copy-paste from here to your Rich Text Editor.

If this too doesn't work:

- View Source from the word browser

- Copy the HTML code

- Use "Edit Source" feature of Rich Text Editor

- Paste the copied HTML code.
