Best Way to do Content Migration from AEM 6.3 to 6.5

Hi All,

We are migrating from AEM 6.3 to 6.5 environment. As per adobe documentation, repository upgrade is not required if we are migrating from 6.3 environment.

I'm just wondering what would be the best way to migrate all the content+ existing users from AEM 6.3 to new 6.5 environment? I have following queries:

  1. Is it really worth to create the content package from AEM 6.3 environment using VLT and install in AEM 6.5 and migrate users using ACS tool?
  2. Can we do in place upgrade in this scenario as well which will migrate all the content and users? If yes do we have any adobe documentation for the same?

Please share your input.

To answer your questions:

1) No, this process will cause issues in the future and not recommended by Adobe

2) Inplace upgrade is the correct way of moving from one AEM instance to another.

Please perform inplace upgrade as mentioned at [1]

hi,

You can follow the in place upgrade guide [1] without the content migration step. On startup of with new AEM jar, content will be picked up by the new version.

Hi,

You can go for in-place upgrade as it's the recommended approach by Adobe. However, if you don't want to go with in-place upgrade route, you can go for a fresh install of 6.5 by moving content package manually.

Users can be moved using ACS commons ACL Packager.
