Adobe Experience Manager GraphQL API: Easy, Efficient Content Delivery by Danny Gordon, Technical Marketing Engineer,

Abstract

The digital landscape is ever-evolving, continuously bringing new and exciting customer touchpoints into existence. Delivering personalized experiences across these touchpoints at scale is challenging — but with its API-first headless content management capabilities, Adobe Experience Manager makes it easy and efficient.

“Headless” refers to a content management system that includes a robust set of authoring tools and a suite of APIs to deliver content in a channel-neutral format. Developers use the APIs to request content and then render it in their application, such as a website, single-page application, or mobile app. Think of the presentation layer (the digital experience users interact with) as the “head.” By decoupling the head from the content, the same content can be reused in multiple different experiences across channels. The headless design pattern is scalable, making it easy for marketers to deliver a consistent message and easy for IT teams to support new and emerging channels.

Experience Manager has reimagined headless
Experience Manager as a Cloud Service is a cloud-native solution that powers content reuse through headless content delivery APIs. At the center of content reuse within Experience Manager are content fragments, which are page-neutral, channel-agnostic assets that include text and related images. These fragments can be created once and then published to multiple channels. And they can connect to third-party translation frameworks, making localization easy. Content models allow marketers to define the structure of content fragment templates with text-based form fields such as title, date, or tags.

Content automation powered by Adobe Sensei optimizes digital assets for the channel on which the content will appear. For example, the Smart Crop feature automatically crops images to fit any screen. And asset microservices leverage Adobe Creative Cloud APIs such as Photoshop and Lightroom to automate other asset-processing tasks.
Seamless integration between Experience Manager and Adobe Target allows developers to natively export content to perform A/B or multivariate testing in order to optimize personalization and deliver the most relevant customer experiences.
