Does the new version of DPS always require the end user to have a web connection?

Is it possible to publish so that all the content is held within the app as per the current version?

Hi Mike,

We no longer support the Single Edition-style of apps. Your end user will need to have a network connection available to initially obtain the content, although once they've viewed it we will cache it on the device.

Thanks for this Neil,

A couple of follow ups to this one if you please.

1) The current Beta version I have made does not cache content as you describe. Is this because it is Beta only?

2) Also, the Fast Company app which I am told uses this new version of DPS, does not cache content either?

So, for what it is worth, Adobe seem to have turned the DPS concept into something which which will be less useful for customers who wish to deliver a fully rich media experience via DPS without a connection once the app is downloaded. It has turned DPS into a web browser only. Very disappointing, I don't expect to be able to sell this idea to any of my customers.

It will also be interesting to see how many of the current publishers continue to use DPS going forward and how they adapt their offering.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Neil,

I take the previous email back. Just done some more tests on my Beta version on it seems to be cacheing the information now.

So is this because I looked at each of the articles in turn before turning off my wifi connection?

Is there a way to cache an entire collection of articles, like the old dps which was downloading an entire folio and not by article?

Not currently. We have plans to add an explicit content download option, but it will not be available at launch.
