Segment first hit

Hi, how can I filter for the very first hit and only see data for that? I would have taken "entries" metric, but it is not available in segment builder!

Second, hwo can I filter for very first hit for a specific entry page? Segment based on "entry page equals..." won't do it, I get same amount as when selecting visit based segment, so my assumption is that entry page persists for whole session?

Hello,

As first hit to a web-site will generally be a page view (rather than onclick activity), I'll suggest to run a pages report with "entries" metrics selected. See screenshot.
Does this help?

I'm aware of the entries metric, but I cannot apply it in segment manager! I don't want to run the pages report, but make some sophisticated deep dive analysis, that's why I need a segment.

Can you elaborate more on the type of segment you need. You are saying all those visitors who made 1st hit onto the website. By default every visit will have first hit on the website. For the second question you are saying you want to filter all those users who entered via specific page? Because all users filtered will have first hit on that entry page. isint it?

Sorry for not being clear enough, actually it was two questions, related to each other.

1.)     I'm aware that every visit on site will have first hit on page, thus I did not want to see the segment of visits with 1. hit (which would be nonsense), but a segment based on hit dimension for         1. hits.

2.) I wanted to create a segment for those hits who entered on homepage - but I wanted to filter on "hits" basis, because by doing this, I can see the next channels (path reports) for that specific entry page.

Another question, what would be the best way to filter for the second page visit: to get the page, the users visit as a second page

Was there a solve to this? I am also looking for a way to segment out users who land on a specific page (i.e. from campaigns, referrals) and only that. So far this is what I came up with but it isn't matching up perfectly:

entry page - contains - [page name] (visit level)

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Laura,

to get the sessions of users who entered via specific pages this should be the way to do it. What isn't matching?

Try this one -

(visit level)

entry page equals [page name] and
Referrer Type does not equal Typed/Bookmarked
