How to remove Not Specified values from metrics totals

Avatar

Hi,

I have a Entry Page - Search Engine report (Entry Pages broken down by Search Engines-All)

Output looks like this, metric is Visits

PageName                    4,000

    Unspecified                2,500

    Google                        1,000

    Yahoo                           300

I can filter out the row Unspecified, but the Total for PageName still includes the total for Unspecified.  What I want is

PageName                   1,500

    Google                        1,000

    Yahoo                           300

How do I do that?  I may be going at this all wrong...

Thanks,

Kathryn

Hi Kathryn,

Using a filter will not affect the total number in this case. If you want to the total to show only the sum of the included line items you should create a segment with the same logic and apply it on the report. You should get the required result then.

Let me know if that works.

Hi Kathryn,

You can do that by clicking on 'Advanced' against the filter option. Select 'If all criteria are met' then under the rule select 'Does not contain' and type in 'Unspecified' and run the report. It will not contain the total for that line item.

Let me know if it solves your query.

Hi,

If I am understanding you, I think I did that.  Next to the filter box, I clicked advanced.  Then for Search Engines dimension, I selected Does Not Contain None.

"unspecified" no longer appears in the list of Search Engines, but the total of 'unspecified' still is included in the first dimension (Page) total.

Using the example I gave above, this is what I get as a result.  PageName still has a value that includes the total for 'unspecifiedl

PageName                    4,000

    Google                        1,000

    Yahoo                           300

Thanks,

Kathryn
