Headline metrics different for days and pages

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help explain this which I came across when playing around with Adobe Analytics Workspace.

When viewing the "headline metrics" of visits, Entries, Bounces, Bounce Rate and Unique visitors, I noticed that across the same date range there can be a difference in the totals, depending on whether I use the dimension of 'Page' or 'Day'. See images below to see the difference

With pages on the breakdown:

I'm only interested in the total figures, not the breakdown so I don't really understand why these totals change depending on what I have it broken down by.

Can anyone help to explain?

Please let me know if what I'm asking needs clarification!

The totals based on the dates will give you the proper column sums. You can verify this by seeing that the bolder number is the same as the faded one below it.

To answer your question, lets look at page views.
We would only expect a page view to occur if there is also a page value set.  Notice the column totals in each case are identical.

The same is not true of visits; it is possible to have a visit without a page value being set (only an s.t server call).

One thing you may wish to do is build a segment to exclude visits in which 'page exisits'.  I would expect this to match the difference you are seeing above.  It will also let you evaluate why that might be happening in your report suite (could be app lifecycle metrics).
