ECID Question

Hello All,

What we are seeing our overall ECID coverage is close to 40%. Meaning if unique visitors are 100 only 40 them are assigned ECID value. We do have one Trust but even for United States which is default Opt-in coverage is 40%. What could be the reason? For different website the number is different for one it is 50% but for other site it is just 10%. Both the sites are using the same Launch Property.

Please help.

Distributions could vary depending on your specific audience and site behaviours... while "US standard distribution is a guideline, it can be skewed when looking at a smaller sample of your own website.

However, that said, where and how are you tracking / looking at your ECID? Could your implementation have issues, or there being a timing issue? What metric are you looking at? If your site is using One Trust, and it requires an opt-in, are you tracking all the initial pages prior to opt-in without the ECID and even though the users later accept the cookies, could the way you are looking at the values be skewed by initial behaviours?

Without seeing your site, or how the implementation is done, or how you are building your report to pull these percentages, it will be very hard for us to help pinpoint the issue.

Hey,

Considering we have 2 different property for 2 different website domains but sending data to same report suite.  what will happen to ECID (marketing cloud id)? with different property, would they be different or same?

Hi,

just to be clear, when you say "2 different properties" you mean in Launch? That  is fine.... the ECID is set against your ORG Id.

I have a complex setup.. technically "30 sites", but I have "core" sites, and a bunch of externals. So basically, 30 core news websites (www.domain.com), each website has an external classifieds site (classifieds.domain.com), an external obituaries site (obituaries.domain.com), etc... there are multiple offshoots....

I use a Launch property per "code base"... so the 30 core sites share 1 launch property, the classifieds for all sites share another, the obituaries have another property etc...

But the visitors moving between the core and external versions of the sites, as well as between sites are set with the proper ECID.

But, we don't have any cookie consent at this time... I suppose in your case, if each domain has it's own consent cookies, you might have inconsistencies between users who use both sites (consent on 1, not on the other... it's also possible that if they grant consent later that the ECID will be set differently?)

The best way to check this is to test... use an isolated browser, check your ECID value as you opt in and out of consent and move between the domains...

Loved the prompt reply,

I tested and see same ECID between 3 different sites with different launch properties. I can now say ECID would remain same.

Thanks for the help.
