Hey there,
I just tried to set up a segment for direct traffic.
Some more information that could be helpful:
- So far this page has only direct traffic (it's a test page)
- In 90 days - there are only 730 Page Views.
I know, my test doesn't really make sense. I try to get more into Adobe Analytics and wanted to test this. So maybe it's not possible to create this segment, because I have only direct traffic - but nevertheless, it would be good to know the reason.
THX!

I have a "Direct" Marketing Channel, and I can make a segment without issue:
But you said you don't have a "Direct" channel in your Marketing Channels? So you or someone deleted that default channel so you aren't collecting it any longer?
This may require a deep dive into your Marketing Channel setup.
Hi @Jennifer_Dungan, hi @Amruthesh_AG
Thank you both for your help!
Hmmm. I haven't touched the Marketing Channels setup and it seems to have the original settings!? (See screenshot)
@Amruthesh_AGI created the dimension/metric, you suggested - I guess Marketing Channel Instances "0" isn't really good. :'D (See Screenshot). I thought "none" is "direct" like in GA - but it seems "none" is just not assigned to a certain channel !?
And I also tried your google hack! Is it normal for a redirection page to appear in between? (screenshot). I checked the real time report afterwards and at least in referring domain is no entry. (But I'll check later again)
Unlike GA, Adobe offers a much more customized approach to Marketing Channels. This can be a plus or a minus depending on your point of view, lol.
If you are seeing the "Auto Setup" I am guessing that you never had these configured at all.. so no Marketing Channel data was being collected. This is a one time screen for initial setup.
Marketing Channels are processed in the order of your processing rules, so as things fall through, if something isn't caught, it might end up in None (which is essentially no channel at all).
I did a three part User Group series with the EMEA and NOAM Central User Groups (I am co-host of NOAM East). EMEA focused on APP, NOAM East did Campaigns for Web, and NOAM Central finished it off with setting up Marketing Channels.
Here is the NOAM Central portion:

I think this would be beneficial to you, and when you have reviewed this, I would be happy to follow up with any questions you have.
Hi @Jennifer_Dungan,
thank you so much for your explanations! That makes sense, although I am quite confused that there is no "working" auto set up for Marketing Channels.:D I'll watch the video and will try to get it to work.
I think it's because Adobe doesn't want to "tell" people what channels to use and how they should process... Leaving them the control to turn them on and configure them when they are ready....
But yeah, it would be nice to have some pre-configured basic channels...

Hi @AmelieFr
Your marketing channel should have data as None/Direct then only you will be able to see None/Direct from the drop down.
when you try to create a segment.
You can cross check by adding marketing channel as dimension and marketing channel instance as a metrics. Attached screenshot FYR.
In case if you want to test your marketing channel setup for test page follow below steps.
1) Go to google.com and find a link then inspect a page then in anchor tag replace the url with your test page url as below.
2) Then click on the link multiple times without refreshing the google.com page.
3) Verify the marketing channel setup after 2 hours, it could show some traffic in natural search marketing channel.
4) Follow above steps to test Social Networks.(Instead of google.com type Facebook.com)
