Add OS version to the Mobile > Operating System report

My company uses Omniture to track usage for mobile applications on multiple platforms (iPhone, BlackBerry, Android), where a given application on a given platform has its own report suite.

For each of these platforms it can be very useful to understand which version of the particular operating system our customers have installed, as the version number indicates which OS features are available. If we have insight into this from the Mobile > Operating System report, it makes it easier for us to decide whether or not to continue supporting older OS versions, or otherwise direct development on the applications.

Ideally, for us the Mobile > Operating System report would look something like this:

Android 2.0.15,548,11837.5%
Android 1.65,459,65537.0%
Android 1.53,517,98723.8%
Android 2.165,0850.4%
Android 2.07,5150.1%

...instead of just listing "Android", particularly since we only have one top-level OS per report suite, as a general rule.

As we try to expand our mobile platform, it would be great to know what to build for.  We have a few apps and mobile sites, optimized for iOS 4.  We would like insight into iOS 4.2 adoption etc.

With regular computers, you give OS versions, how about mobile device versions.

Currently which OS is the only available report and it would be nice to drill down and find out which version of the OS is being used.

Thanks,

It would be very beneficial to be able to break down mobile data by OS version. Being able to see mobile data trends broken out by version type would allow analysts to quickly identify bugs on their sites with certain versions that may not show up with the standard device type report.

With OS technology constantly changing on the mobile front, being able to monitor the health of a site across each major update (i.e. iOS 5 - iOS 6) is quickly becoming crucial as a small bug between OSs can drastically affect several key metrics on a site. While incredibly thorough, the current device reports are no longer enough to adequately monitor a users mobile interaction with a site. Further refinement by mobile OS version would alleviate a growing number of mobile site traffic reports crippled by huge lapses in traffic due to discord between the site design and OS version.

As others have already stated, having insight into the mobile OS version is valuable information for any product organization with a web presence.

More to the point, Google Analytics already provides this information, and Adobe should, too.

We've had this for apps since last July.  OS, OS version, and many other device data elements are automatically tracked in the lifecycle metrics in the SDKs.  See the documentation:

http://microsite.omniture.com/t2/help/en_US/sc/appmeasurement/ios/index.html#Lifecycle_Metrics

Also, the lifecycle metrics now are sent to system variables so you do not need to use any of your custom variables for them, a simple button in the admin console.  See docs here:
