Ever get questions like this from stakeholders and think it would be really nice to have a nice clean visual to show them?

You want to create something like this but the problem is you create it once and it becomes a big manual time-suck every time you want to update it.  Because chances are, as soon as you create it for one time period, like 'last month', and for one metric, like 'clicks', someone asks, well what about last year, or what about conversions?  And you have to manually update every single number in your overlay.
And some third party companies offer these, but of course those cost money.

You can follow these steps to creating your own free and automated overlay.

I used all these different 'extra' tips on mine, and made different tabs in my Excel sheet for new vs. return visitors, mobile vs. desktop, etc. and I had a table of contents tab with a hyperlink to each one to make it easy for users to navigate.
I hope this helps get you started.  Remember, this is just a guide - you can really customize this into whatever you want it to be!
