Size Limit of Projects When Trying to Copy?

Avatar

Hello all, I'm trying to copy a project and it times out (I hit the blue "Copy project" button, the button turns gray, then after a 5-10 seconds the button turns back to blue and the project is not copied).

The project I'm trying to copy doesn't have many documents, but it has 375 tasks.

Have any of you experienced this?

Thanks

I feel like 375 is fine, and I feel like 5-10 seconds isn't considered a timeout. Have you refreshed your cache and cookies recently, or maybe try another browser?

Hi @skyehansen thanks for the response.

Yes, I've cleared cache and cookies and tried Chrome and Edge. I called it a time out because the "Copy Project" button turns gray when I first select it (indicating it's trying to perform the copy action) back to blue after ~10 seconds with no results.

I'll try customer service, though that's been a bit of a process lately.

sorry to hear you’re having issues with Support. While you’re waiting for their response, there are a number of tests you can run in the Preview sandbox. e.g.

- create a fresh project, then try to copy that (indicates whether your problem is with one project or all projects)

- if the copy succeeds then try to layer in other specifics like adding more tasks, and adding files

- try copying the problem project but deselecting all the checkboxes

- if this works, add the checkboxes back in one at a time

This is an odd one, but are you a full admin in your instance? I think I recall seeing that behavior when someone was trying to copy a project that contained/referenced something they didn't have the security rights to see. If you aren't a full admin, see if yours will do a screenshare and compare what they see on the project versus you. Look for weird things, like is the Portfolio one you can't see or something your Access Level allows you to see but not create.

If you are a full admin, go carefully through the project and track all the components back to Setup. See if there's something that was enabled when that project was created that's now inactive (approval paths, queue options, custom forms etc.)

I've copied projects with 1,000+ tasks, I'm not aware of a specific size limit.  After those ideas, I'd have to call support myself too.

Thank you Katherine! I'm a full admin. I'll try to take a look at the components to see if there's anything unusual. I also tried Skye's suggestions. I'm able to copy other projects (even very similar ones), and I tried variations of deselecting checkboxes, etc. with no success.

Meanwhile, I ended up using a workaround by converting the project to a template, then creating a project from the template, which worked fine.
