Setting up client account

I want to know the feasibility of setting up a client account with limited view access to only projects that they are on. This is something that is new to me and I have not worked with setting up accounts before. Is this something that is possible or would it be better to setup an external app with the information?

Would it work to create a group and a accesslevel? 
accessLevel "external client" so you can dial down what they can DO

group - so you can dial in what they can SEE

This is the external client access level. Do you know what a calendar report is?

Calendar report is a calendar (main menu > calendars) 

No I meant you can create an access level for this external person. Based on whatever they need to be able to do.

Would I have to pay for a license? I read that the external user one is free? What would that look like?
