Did implementing Workfront change your file naming conventions?

We Implemented Workfront in July of 2017 and the designers are experiencing difficulties with file naming and location. Previously we used a simple project numbering system (170000 was the first project of 2017, then 170001 the second and so on) but Workfront was not able to duplicate this. They did however provide a system configured code that started with the 2-digit year then added 4 characters picked up from an alphanumeric reference code in Workfront. So we have project codes like 18f4d9. This has caused it to be more difficult for the designers to make date observations based on the code, and to find files because they are not in sequential order on the server. And searching works but sometimes lags depending on server activity. So, did your implementation to Workfront change your file naming conventions? What kind of project numbering/coding system do you use? Any suggestions on how to fix this? Mark Hahn SEI Investments Company

For our projects we use the fiscal year, plus the "reference number" that is unique to the project (see PROJECT DETAILS and OVERVIEW) and then client name/asset type/subject. So, our project would be "18-148865 Ortho Rack Card Knee Replacement" Any copy or design documents will be titled the same by writers/designers and final iterations will have a "_PRINT" or "_FINAL" tacked on the end. We realize WF can't do anything about the length of the reference numbers, so we know we will eventually have very long numbers, but for now we are satisfied with this naming convention. Hi Mark, We have the same issue. Ultimately we decided not to change the format of our project numbers, for the reasons you mention and also because they're harder to remember. Many of our users reference docket numbers to refer to or search for a project. Instead, we use an external tool to generate numbers and manually input the number into Workfront when converting requests to projects. Please make sure to vote for and share the idea on the Idea Exchange!
