I have one user who constantly adds his updates to his initial request instead of the project. I explained to him that we need him to post his updates in the project updates, and gave him a tutorial on how to do that.
Today he sent screen shots showing me he can't access the project updates, and so far I haven't been able to figure out why. He's got Contributor access, and I always grant project access to requesters when I convert them.
Is this something affected by the new licenses?
Am I overlooking something?

@SCainWabash - Is the user able to see the tab "updates" from the left panel? If not, it's been hidden in his layout template.
If the user is able to access the updates tab but not able to make updates or see other user updates, this could be a different scenario with access to the project or in the access level type.

He can't see the "updates" in the left rail. Hoping this would fix it, I created a new layout template including the "updates" and assigned it to him, but he still isn't seeing it. He can only see "metrics" and "project details" and nothing else.
I've tried having him log out, deactivating him, reactivating him, and having him log back in. I've tried changing his access level and then resetting him to "contributor." But so far nothing is helping. I'm flummoxed.

I would double check the layout template and that the layout template is indeed assigned to him. I tested on my end and without a layout template applied a contributor can only see metrics and project details. With a layout template applied that allows access to other areas more things show up.
If you've verified all of that information then I would reach out to support so that they can look at your actual instance and see what's happening.
