Calculated filed possibilities?

Avatar

Level 7
Hi All, I have been asked if it is possible to have a calculated field at Program Level which calculates revenue that is inputted at a project level? I know we have some calculate fields in our Workfront environment but I haven't build any out yet so thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has one like this or has done this before?? Thanks in advance! Vicky Fitzgerald Telegraph Media Group Limited

I don't know the answer to this, but from a project report, you should be able to group by program and sum the project amounts to the blue bar at the program level. It might also be possible then to access only that info from the summary tab. -skye

Hi Vicky, I checked the object model and Program is pretty light, as far as built in fields go: nothing similar to "Revenue" that I can see that might automatically roll up Project Revenue (from the Projects' built in field). So as Skye suggested, a summed report might be the easiest way to go. Otherwise, as Narayan pointed out last week, since collections cannot be aggregated natively, the other option I can suggest would be our "http://store.atappstore.com/product/ubercalc/">UberCalc solution, which is designed for calculating this type of rollup information and storing it a higher object's level (in custom data). Hey @Skye Hansen thanks for your response, but the sum of all the projects would be a field that we want to store at program level and then report on so I'm not too sure if this would work... Vicky Fitzgerald Telegraph Media Group Limited

Hey @Doug Den Hoed - AtAppStore , revenue is a custom field we currently ask users to fill in at project level and program level but the aim is to have them complete the information just at project level and then total the information at campaign level and be able to report on this field. I will have a look at your solution, thanks! Vicky Fitzgerald Telegraph Media Group Limited

Thanks Vicky, Rolling up data to a higher level object (e.g. Project to Program in your case) is a classic usecase for UberCalc. You're welcome to drop me a line at doug.denhoed@atappstore.com if you have specific questions, too. Regards, Doug Den Hoed - AtAppStore Got Skills?
