Quickly Adding Planned Hours To Assignees

We use Simple Duration and have multiple assignees on a task. We also get lump sums from finance/account about the hours by role and need to make sure we are hitting those targeted hours.

We would love a view very similar to the view you have for Utilization report (and like the Resource Usage report in MS Project). We'd like a view grouped by Job Role and then user that lists out all the tasks assigned to them (and it does need to be assignment roles or assignment users, NOT assigned to/task owner). Then a PM can just add the hours needed for the individual tasks and see a total by role.

Hi Anthony - does your idea have a time element to it? I.e. contouring the hours per resource per day in the same screen?

Hi David - For this particular idea, it was for our PMs who are trying to get their bulk hours for a project from the Client Estimate into the various tasks (i.e. you have 50 hours of a copywriter, how do you want to divide that among the various tasks for a copywriter). So it is just essentially putting the Advanced Assignment pop-up for individual tasks in one easy to enter area.

Now for our RMs, they have asked if there is a way to make the resource grid editable so they can contour the hours there in an easy to read way (by day) and not deal with the mess that is the scheduling or team working on calendar. But unfortunately the resource grid is going away in 18.3/19.1. :(

Hi Anthony. Resource Contours are available via the 'api-unsupported' API. I'm using this currently to read out the contoured hour values for resource reporting. I hope that they don't take this away or we'll be screwed because we can't do our complex reporting within Workfront. On a related note, I'm wondering if we can write in the resource contours via the API. If so, we could build our own editable Resource Grid replacement. Obviously not something worth doing via the unsupported API, but if the function makes it into the versioned API then it would be a viable path. Something to think about anyways....

Hi David, OT slightly but can you do more with the API for contouring vs. what's possible just in the UI? I'm thinking of that annoying planned hours limitation etc.

But otherwise I've upvoted :D
