As is:

The Task Constraint setting of new tasks can only be influenced indirectly using the Start Date setting, as follows:

Based on the Project Planned Date -> "As soon as possible"

Today -> "Start No Earlier Than (today)"

Desired:

For our Group Admins it would be useful to be able to set Task constraint options as default for the new tasks created in the projects associated with their group.

The ask is to have a setting for the "Task Constraint",  in the settings of a Group > Task & Requests Preferences > New Task Defaults section, similar to the "Duration type"

Project leaders are are regularly frustrated by the fact that they cannot enter the start and finish dates on their projects without worrying about duration. They are asking for Fixed Dates as a default. Without that option they are using spreadsheets because that's easier and more manageable for project leaders without formal project training. It is not efficient to change the Task Constraint for each new task as opposed to setting the default task constraint at the project level to Fixed Dates.

My team hates having late tasks in their queue when it's something out of their control - ie the person before them is late submitting their task.

It would be nice to have a task constraint move the planned start date based on the previous task completion date. Right now there is no way for the system to move these dates instead the whole project just shows late for everyone else down the line causing a ripple effect of unease.

We have been struggling with with issue as well. Especially when a task sits with an Approver past the task completion date. When this happens, some of our users throw their hands up and say "well, then NO dates are valid." This doesn't help us when trying to keep work moving.

The next task start date should be adjusted automatically based on the predecessor's actual completion date. This should also trigger an update/notification/flag on the project letting us know that this ("override"?) happened.
