Add Event Notification when predecessor task updates assigned task's completion date

Description - When a task is dependent on a predecessor (either same project or cross-project), and it impacts my assigned task, I would like to get a notification of this event. Currently, there's no way to get notified of a change in completion date due to a predecessor. This forces me to review all of my chained tasks for date impact. There is notification if my task itself gets its completion updated directly, but not if it's updated by a dependent task indirectly.

Why is this feature important to you - This is important because a dependent task has affected my task's planned due date. Without notification for this, I have to monitor for these changes continuously.

How would you like the feature to work - When a task that is assigned to me has its planned completion date changed, I want an event notification. It should not be limited to just users changing the planned completion date directly.

Current Behaviour - There is no notification of an indirect date impact on assigned tasks.

Hi, do you have thess notifications on in your profile? If so, are you saying this only works if it's a direct due date change, not a change from other task date's changing? I'd find that odd...

Yes, the notifications are on. WF support has confirmed that this situation does not trigger an event and suggested I file this request.

Interesting, I didn't realize this.
Curious, what are you trying to decipher from seeing due dates from direct changes vs due dates of changes on other tasks? If you are wanting to see if something is actually 'ready' or not if its predecessor tasks are complete, you can have a View for yourself in a task report that shows true/false for 'Is Ready'...

My users are assigned to tasks that have dependencies on predecessor tasks. If that predecessor task's completion date changes, it impacts the successor tasks. Without notification of this, the assignees or the project manager has to monitor their task dates continuously. This becomes more problematic the longer the task chain.

Hi @Simon_ULe,

To help assess and monitor such complex predecessor relationships, I invite you to consider our Timeline solution, which lets you choose one or more Critical Tasks, set their Path Colors, then view Timeline to trace the resulting multiple Critical Paths through all predecessors and feeder projects.

Alternatively, you might also consider our Create Baseline solution which can automatically create a baseline for multiple Workfront projects on a scheduled basis (or just run your own, manually), so that you can then quickly filter for any such Task whose Planned Completion Date no longer matches its corresponding Baseline Task's Planned Completion Date.

Regards,

Doug
