Even without "upgrading" to AEM Forms Designer, you can get a fairly up to date version by applying the latest quick fixes for Designer 11. The QF9 will bring you pretty close to AEM Forms Designer 6.1. See https://experienceleaguecommunities.adobe.com/t5/adobe-livecycle-questions/quick-fix-1101-002-livecycle-designer-es4/qaq-p/151577?profile.language=en&pageRefresh=true

If you are using Dynamic XFA strictly to merge content (i.e. XML that is provided from the server), you can flatten the PDF before it gets to the end user. LiveCycle (AEM) Server and iText XFA Worker can do this.

The form you are attempting to open is a dynamic XFA form. These forms can only be opened in an XFA aware reader, which basically means Adobe Acrobat. You must download it and open it with acrobat/reader in order to view it.

Well with Acrobat XI they replaced LiveCycle with FormsCentral, which used LiveCycle internally but ultimately produced AcroForms. After XI, they removed a form generation product altogether in Acrobat, suggesting SMBs use a third party product, or look at AEM Forms. AFAIK, there are no drop in replacements for the creation of XFA forms outside of AEM Designer.

I have a theory that Adobe is actively discouraging the sales of this product because it perpetuates the use of the PDF 2.0 non compliant XFA format (You can technically make a standard PDF with LiveCycle / AEM Forms, but not easily). However, they are willing to keep it going for those who bought into it as part of the server suite of products. I can't explain their behavior any other way.

The dyn is a vendor extension and only certain XSLT engines will support it. I'm not sure what engine the online transformation tool is using.

Yes, you can embed an XSLT into your XDP and have it run before the data is merged in the form. Keep in mind that Acrobat only supports XSLT 1.0, using a processor called Ginger Alliance.

You can use a web debugger like Fiddler to intercept what is being sent to the server, assuming you are using HTTP submit.

You can use the approach you mentioned earlier, or consider AEM Forms, or a third party "flattener" tool that will convert the XFA form to a static document of record.

I think it was removed because AEM Designer 6.5 is out. Someone needs to post the checkout link.Right now you can call Adobe. Call +1 (800) 685-3644, press 2, then 1, and ask about purchasing AEM Forms Designer standalone.

What do you mean by XML format? Do your forms need to be merged with data, or can they be printed as-is?

Wrap the text box in a subform and bind the subform to the ContentTypeCode. The SOM should look something like SecondPostalRegulationsCompliantAddressLine.[$.ContentTypeCode != "2"].

It is untrue that Chrome doesn't support LiveCycle PDFs. What Chrome may not support is Dynamic PDFs. Chrome should be able to render static PDFs generated from LiveCycle, but keep in mind even more advanced features in LiveCycle, such as scripting, will likely not work in Chrome, as LiveCycle uses a different scripting model than AcroForms.

If you have programming ability, the PDF contains the XML inside of it, it is just a matter of extracting it. You could also email the xdp, which includes the xml dataset and may also include the PDF as base64 binary.

What do you mean by dynamic? It has a very particular meaning in LiveCycle/XFA which is to grow or shrink the form based on data. Acrobat has no support for editing dynamic forms, as it can only edit AcroForms, which are static.

If your form is static XFA, you could try this: http://apps.practicalpdf.com/xfa2pdf/ You could then edit the form in regular Acrobat.

I have a button that should only be clicked once. Once it is clicked, it needs to be disabled (i.e. click event should not be fireable). I have JavaScript that I thought accomplished this:this.access = "readOnly"; But it appears this only disables the ability to "click" using the mouse. The button is still focusable and enter causes the click event to fire.

You are correct, the XML DOM is only accessible by binding form objects to it. You approach seems solid. It has been a long time since I've used prePrint events, but I remember them to be a bit unwieldy. If the data is static (i.e. it is part incoming XML rather than entered by the user on the form), then try to override the initialize event instead. It should accomplish the same effect.
