It should support .com in the node name. Did you try creating a new node with .com and checked if the same issue persists ?

Context hub is meant for managing the data stores for personalization. However it could be used as a data layer.As feike_visser​ mentioned, its loaded async so it should be fine. Regarding the issue, it depends on what type and how much of data are we trying to load in this layer !
