I hope this change is just a bug and not a change in functionality. It is frustrating to not be able to make a quick and easy change to the title of a report and instead having to go into the report settings to update the title.

I am trying to report/ create a view to show who is the author of various proofs, but I am running into an issue where I can't find a way to pull in the name of the proof author into a column. Is there is a way to pull this information in that I am missing?

Yes! This would be a huge help. We are running into this same issue. It really does come across as a monetary change, rather than something that keeps the end users in mind.
