I have a form in which I call setInstances(x) to generate multiple instances of a subform.Only I want to gather some data from the user first and have that data replicated in the new instances. As it is, the new instances are based on the original empty version of the form.Is there a way to do this?Thanks.

Thanks Bruce.Yes, "on top of the other" referred to the hierarchy.Your point on sibling subforms was what I was missing.Scott.

I have two subforms, one on top of the other. The second one is marked Keep with Previous in the Pagination tab.Yet page breaks are allowed to occur between the two, leaving the one orphaned at the bottom of a page.Anyone know what I'm missing?Thanks.

It gets stranger.Form was built with LC ES 4. Reader extentions applied with Acrobat Pro 11.The workflow of prompting with an Open dialog with Reader 11 only works after disabling "Enhanced Security" in Acrobat Pro and clearing LC rights management cache.Is this stuff documented anywhere?Thanks.

I would probably use numeric fields in a table rather stand alone fields.FormCalc is a little more effcient than javascript with this sort of thing. I've used this method:if (HasValue(ExpenseClaim.Page1.MiscExpenses.TableExpense.Row1.Cell6) $.rawValue = Sum(TableExpense.Row1[*].Cell6); else $.rawValue = null endif

A seeming simple bit of code:xfa.host.importData();in the click event of a button is supposed to open a dialog prompting a user to choose a data file, but doesn't.Anyone know of what could suppress this? It doesn't work in LC ES 2 preview, or Acrobat X, or Reader 11.Thanks.

Bruce, your comment makes me wonder if there is a better way to collect data from these forms. At this point we're looking for .csv data. Any suggestions?Thanks.

So as an experiment I added some check boxes. Data from text fields, drop downs and check boxes all land in Acrobat's report.csv file provided that binding is set. No radio button data is exported. What is it about radio buttons?I'm using LCD ES2 ver. 9 to create the form and Acrobat X to create report.csv.I've been able to reproduce the symptom on multiple test forms....never seem to get radio button data.Bug maybe?Thanks.

I can "merge data to spreadsheet" for all my text fields, but neither the field names nor data come out for the radio button fields. Any idea why?I've bound item values to the exclusion group, set data binding to "Use name", and I haven't renamed the individual button objects. I have renamed the exclusion group so that the object names are unique.Thanks.

I've created a form with a number of text fields, pull downs, check boxes, etc. It is saved from Acrobat as a "Reader Extended PDF" so users can enter data and save.When I use Acrobat to "Merge Data into Spreadsheet" the field order seems bizarre. It's not alphabetical and it's not based on the tab order.Anyone know what determines the field order?Thanks.

I don't see how this object reference would work:Table1.ActionItemGrp.all.item(a).Table1.ActionItemGrp.Row5.all.item(b).ClosedDate.rawValueIt appears that you've restarted the hierarchy (Table1) in the middle of an object reference.

Dang, Bruce, every time I come here to ask a question you nail it dead on.You really ought to be writing documentation for Adobe. 😉It astounds me that such a simple concept isn't found in Adobe's docs, printed or online, nor in any blogs that I searched. But in a dusty corner of Bruce's brain....gold.Thanks.

Here's a sample from the Scripting Basics guide:switch(xfa.event.newText) {case 'Invisible':Subform1.nodes.item(nCount).presence = "invisible";break;case 'Hidden (Exclude from Layout)':Subform1.nodes.item(nCount).presence = "hidden";break;case 'Visible (but Don\'t Print)':Subform1.nodes.item(nCount).presence = "visible";Subform1.nodes.item(nCount).relevant = "-print";break;case 'Invisible (but Print Anyway...

>>>Between the brackets should be an integer representing the index of the array.Zackly.So l1, l2, l3 etc are variables holding integers of the array indicies.I'd like the loop to use "i" to increment the variable names so that when the loop executes, these statements are formed:trip = distance [ l1] [l2] //first time around the looptrip = distance [l2] [l3] //second time around the looptrip = distance [l3] [l4] //third time around the loop

It's choking on this:trip = distance [l + i] [l + (i + 1)]Any idea how to creat an expression which will result in this:trip = distance [ l1] [l2] // first time aroundtrip = distance [l2] [l3] //second time aroundtrip = distance [l3] [l4] //third time aroundetc.....Tried this:trip = distance ["l"+ i] ["l" + i + 1];but no. 😞

Thanks a mil.>>>Not sure what you're trying to do with:Don't worry about the last line; it's a mistake.But this:trip = distance [l(i)] [l(i + 1)];Is going to a two dimensional array to look up some distances. With my old script I used:trip1 = distance [from1] [to1];The new script may work too; I haven't had a chance to try it.BTW...I saw your suggestion for Bruce's cookbook, but cookbooks.adobe.com isn't working for me today. You?

Hi All.Noob.Person1[Scott] needs a bit of syntax help.What's the correct way to handle the "l" and "f" variables in the loop below? It doesn't like the f(i) business.if (xfa.resolveNode("ExpenseClaim.Page2.DistanceRecord.TableKM.Row1["+rowNum+"]").Locations.Location1.rawValue != null{l1 = xfa.resolveNode("ExpenseClaim.Page2.DistanceRecord.TableKM.Row1["+rowNum+"]").Locations.Location1.rawValue;l2 = xfa.resolveNode("ExpenseClaim.Page2.DistanceRecord.TableKM.Row1["+rowNum+"]").Locations.Location2....

Yes, it was set to this. Funny thing, the script halts with a yellow arrow pointing at the "if" line of code, but no exception is reported.Oh well, it's working now. Now I need to move on to my next goal....making it work with multiple table rows.I see a bunch of "resolvenode" in my future....

Solved.You were right. The script chokes on the .length property for these objects. But if I snip it off and simply test the rawValue it's all good. Suits me fine.Thanks.

Helpful suggestions, thanks.I threw the script into a button and it still behaves the same way. However, when I open the document in Acrobat Pro (which actually has a debugger! Imagine!), the script halts (but doesn't throw an exception) at the next unexectuted "if", so I think you might be onto something with your idea on the LocationX property.That field is a pull down with text items, so I would think .length would be OK. I'll play around with other tests.Thanks.

My noobish understanding is that "if" statements are excuted if a boolean true occurs, and if it doesn't occur the script continues after the closing curly bracket.The script below is from a numeric field and is fired by the calculate event, so it runs repeatedly. I'm wondering why the "hello world" part doesn't get excuted every time around. Instead, it always waits for a boolean true from the second "if".if (ExpenseClaim.Page2.DistanceRecord.TableKM.Row1.Locations.Location1.rawValue.length != ...

Here's one method, but I'll be interested if there's a more elegant way.I provided an item made with a space character and this script:if (this.rawValue = " "){this.rawValue = null;}
