Yes, we thought about using Subforms with a flow layout. But the extra parameter we have is that you can have 4 Text Fields in the report. The total number of lines in the report is limited (e.g 40 lines for the whole report). If you enter a lot of text in a given Text Field, it will limit the other Text Fields available lines for text entry. This is because the report has to fit on one page. Otherwise, it would flow out of the page.

Hi Paul,My use case is the following:Users enter text in a Flex application that then genereate a PDF report using their entry. In order to limit the amount of text entered in Flex, we need to know from the PDF the number of lines of each Text Field in the report, and also their width and height. Right now, this is maintained statically. Using PDFObject, we want to dynamically embed the PDF template (it can be one of fifteen) into the same HTML page that embeds the Flex application. Then, the Fle...

Number of lines in a Field of type Text with Javascript

Hi,I have a form where I need to dynamically retrieve the number of lines in a Field of type Text. When I use getField(), I'm returned an object of type Field. I can see such properties as rect, but nothing concerning the number of lines of text in the field.Any idea (other than getting the Field height and dividing that by the height of a line) ?Regards,Karl.

This might help:Section 3 of the following article mentions the use made byFlex of UIDs:http://flex.sys-con.com/node/5058753. Make sure that your server-side and client-side DTOs DOprovide unique set/get uuid property. Flex loves this property, doget in love with it too. Flex is using it to identify elements ofdata presented by the list-based controls. You will find numeroususes for it as well. For instance, instead of sorting by industry, ticker you would sort by industry, ticker and uuid. Why? ...

Can the Data Management Service detect database changes ?

Is it possible with LCDS to have the Data Management Servicedetect database changes ? We already have LCDS configured with acustom Java assembler. Any change commited on a client reflects toother clients and in the database too. But we also have somebackend processes changing the database. In that case, is itpossible to configure LCDS to detect those changes to the databaseand push them to the clients ?

Disable the pragma no-cache header on your web server andyour application should then work with IE7.Also, you might run into trouble with self-signedcertificates. And even, with certificates that are not self-signed,you need to check the URL pattern.E.g if the certificate is configured for *.mycompany.com andyou use a URL like *.*.mycompany.com, it won't work.

By using a model with the Singleton pattern, everytime yourcontrols values change (drop down menus, text labels or comboboxes), you can update the model. As it is accessible fromanywhere, the child window could also read these values.

Yes indeed. It is not compiled into the swf unless it isreferenced or cast. Also, be careful to the variable names in Java likefirstName.During deserialization, ActionScript might expect a differentspelling than firstName because of the mix between lowercase anduppercase.

I don't exactly see what you are trying to accomplish, but ifyou use a Singleton, you will be able to access it from anywhereand get / set properties on it.

Hi,I did have this problem. The only solution I could find is to :1. Create a new collection as the data provider for thedatagrid. Don't assign directly the collection coming from theserver2. Define a tag in order to detect changes tothe collection and set the destination to a setter function3. In the setter, reset the dataprovider collection, gothrough each element in the incoming collection from the server, check if the element is already present in the dataprovidercollection based on the entit...

Yes, you can have three entities:[RemoteClass alias="com.java.MyVO"]public class MyVO{}[RemoteClass alias="com.java.MyObj1"]public class MyObj1{}[RemoteClass alias="com.java.MyObj2"]public class MyObj2{}In the constructor for MyVO, go through all elements ofMyObj1 and MyObj2 and cast them to their respective types. If you use the Data Management Service with LCDS, it's eventbetter.Object composition can be handled with managed associations.
