I just installed a fresh instance of 5.6.1 and used Chrome (38.0.2125.101 OSX) to access CRXDE Lite and didn't see any issues.  I was able to navigate the node structure and load all nodes and files without issue.Is there something in particular that isn't working for you?

I think you're missing my point.  You don't need to go update the nodes in the JCR.  Just change the parsys' in your components to "wcm/" and don't worry about the JCR.  Your components will all still work.
