We can see that when we create new Fragments to be used in email they is created in a Draft mode. And when testing the email with Proofing, we cant se any differences it a Fragment is in Draft mode or in Published mode. We are therefor wondering what is the difference. Is the Draft node just used when the Fragment is run through a Journey, and that Draft mode is excluded from rendering when the mail is sent from the Journey? Or is there other things we have missed regarding this topic?

@Selliers Draft and Live statuses have been introduced with Journey Optimizer June release, all fragments created before this release have the Draft status, even if they are used in a journey or campaign. If you make any change to these fragments, you need to publish them to make them Live and propagate the changes to the associated campaigns and journeys. You also need to create a new journey/campaign version and publish it.

Thanks for the answer, but it really answer the question. You are just stating the facts, but not how it works. The question remains: Is Fragments run through a Journey, with Draft mode, excluded from rendering the mail while been sent? What is the purpose of the Draft status.

Hi @Selliers, you aren't able to publish a journey with a draft state fragment in an action!

I am sorry but that is not correct. I just tried this. I published a Journey with a email built just by fragments in a Draft mode, and there was nothing stopping me by doing that.

There may be a gap between the launch and the lifecycle of fragments in existing sandboxes.
Once a fragment is published, it cannot be edited. Instead, a new draft version must be created, modified, and then published. The updated version will apply to all campaigns using the fragment.
