Migrating from ACPTarget to AEPTarget for iOS

Hello. I've been tasked with migration of our iOS app from ACP (2.x) to AEP (3.x).  It seems pretty straightforward following this guide.

However one issue that has come up is that the AEPTarget does not work with iOS app extensions like the older ACPTarget seemed to.  I am getting Xcode complier errors if I try to include AEPTarget in the iMessage extension. Previously this would compile with ACPTarget.  Any suggestions?
