Upgrade error: ALC-UPG-001-014: Failed to backup the LiveCycle 7 Database

Hi,

We are trying to upgrade our existing Livecycle 7 to Livecycle ES 8.2.

The configuration manager completes the upgrade of JBoss successfully but when it proceeds to upgrade the MySQL database, it stops with the following error:

ALC-UPG-001-014: Failed to backup the LiveCycle 7 Database

There is no error present in the error log.

We also checked the configuration manager log file (lcm.0.log) and found the following entry:

--------------------------

We tried to backup the adobe MySQL database manually from the MySQL Administrator tool and that completes fine.

Can you please help us on how to proceed with the upgrade and what the problem could be?

Thanks

Hi Vinay,

There are two screens related to database that you'd see while trying to upgrade from LiveCycle 7 to 8.

The first screen asks for information about your LiveCycle 7 MySQL which in most cases is on localhost:3306.

The LCM then connects to this database and migrates data to LiveCycle 8 MySQL in a subsequent step.

LiveCycle 8 MySQL in most cases is on localhost:1138 when you are performing an upgrade on the same machine which also has LiveCycle 7.

Could you confirm that you are providing correct ports in both the steps?

Thanks,

Hi Hina,

There is no problem with the ports of MySQL of both Livecycle 7 and 8. (The Test connection button is successful as well).

During the MySQL upgrade step, the installation proceeds to around 8% and then stops with failure.

Also we further investigated this and noticed that the backup happens in the file adobe.sql present in C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\configurationManager\working\upgrade\mysql

Once the upgrade fails, we see that in this file, the back up process stops during the backing up of the MySQL table tb_form_data.

We are suspecting that the failure is due to some issue with backing up of this table.

Any further pointers will be appreciated.

Thanks

Does this table contain a lot of entries?

I would like to have a look at the lcm and server logs.

Will it be possible for you to share them with me?

You can try one more thing.

Go to C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\mysql and edit my.ini

Change the value of max_allowed_packet from 25M to a larger value (let's say 30M or 50M), restart MySQL service and then try again.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Hina,

The table contains around 8000 records. We tried changing the max_allowed_packet parameter to 50 but it didnt work.

Since the attachment option is disabled in this forum and log file is huge, I'm copy pasting the relevant server log and lcm log dump.

C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\mysql\bin\mysqldump --quick --add-locks --lock-tables -c --default-character-set=utf8 --skip-opt -padobe -u adobe -r C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\configurationManager\working\upgrade\mysql\adobe.sql -B adobe --port=3306 --host=localhost

Can you try running this command and let me know what is the error that comes in command prompt?

Thanks and Regards

Hi Hina,

The following error comes up in the command prompt:

-------------------------------------------

C:\Documents and Settings\bob>C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\mysql\bin\mysqldump --quick
--add-locks --lock-tables -c --default-character-set=utf8 --skip-opt -padobe -u
adobe -r C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\configurationManager\working\upgrade\mysql\adobe.
sql -B adobe --port=3306 --host=localhost
mysqldump: Out of memory (Needed 10380928 bytes)
mysqldump: Got error: 2008: MySQL client ran out of memory when retrieving data
from server

------------------------------------------

We also checked the MySQL error log present @ C:\Adobe\LiveCycle\mysql\data\ MNGKTR51993.err and noticed the following entry:

-------------------------------------------

100420 15:16:39  InnoDB: Error: cannot allocate 4814100 bytes  of memory for

InnoDB: a BLOB with malloc! Total allocated  memory

InnoDB: by InnoDB 33427880 bytes. Operating system errno:  2

InnoDB: Check if you should increase the swap file  or

InnoDB: ulimits of your operating system.

InnoDB: On FreeBSD check you have compiled the OS  with

Hi Vinay,

Modify the following settings in my.ini of LiveCycle 7 MySQL database.

innodb_buffer_pool_size=1024M (Approx. 50% - 80% of system RAM. But don't set it too high)

innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=20M

I realize my earlier mistake.

Even the max_allowed_packet setting should have been changed for LiveCycle 7 MySQL database as LCM is connected to LiveCycle 7 MySQL database here.

Restart LiveCycle 7 MySQL database service and then try the command I sent in my earlier post.

Let me know the results.

Thanks and Regards
