I want to ask about the functionality in Adobe Connect for controling other computer. This would be possible with Cocomo? I have a possible project for a client that wants this functionality and need to know if Cocomo would be the solution. Taking into account that Connect support this functionality, I think cocomo would make it possible for our Application.
Thanks in advance for any insight about this topic.
Cocomo does not provide access for screen sharing or computer remote control. Those capabilites are not part of the AIR runtime or the Flash Player.
As you observe, Connect has those capabilities via a special meeting application extension that users need to download to their computer. This meeting extension is not part of the Cocomo service or SDK.
I'm sorry to ear that, since that's the kind of functionality my client needs, and other collaborative things are not enough to start a project if we can't support screen sharing and take cotrol of other computer.
Would you mind sharing the details of your use case. What is your client trying to do? It'd be great to understand what is the problem that you and your client are hoping to solve so that we can see if there are ways we can accomplish this via Cocomo or other creative means.
Thanks for your interest. Our client is a spanish bank that wants to revamp a call center. Actualy they use technologies that does not take into account diferent OS and browsers. For example they use an ActiveX to do the screensharing-remote control thing. So they want to adopt a new technology that let them use it in a multiplatform way. For this reason we start proposing Flash Player as the run time.
Now with Cocomo we can offer even more integration and solution, but we need to detect if we need something that the Flash Platform or Cocomo does not provide.
I think the screen sharing and the remote control is the only problem here.
About a use case in the bank: There are tecnical people that use to connect to other user machine and take control in order to fill some Excel sheets. They have this workflow and need to maintain it. So we need this kind of functionality.
Hope you can have now the concept of what we need, and could give us some advice of what way we could take in order to give our client what they demand.
Could a "hybrid" solution work? Specifically, use Cocomo for in-context collaboration work flows as needed, but send the participants into a web conferencing solution for situations when screensharing/remote control is required.
I would come back next year over this issue. We had a meeting with our client few days ago but meeting was cancelled due to common date problems. We'll plan the meeting next year and will see other possible solutions, so I'll let you know to see if Cocomo could help with this.
Thanks for all the support and feedback you give to us here :)
