I have a

numeric field I am with a comb of 4

charactors in it.  When a zero is placed in the first field it disappears

when you tab out of it.  This is a field to represent the last four digits of a social security number

so the zero needs to stay in.

You can add a dislay pattern of num{9999}. This will indicate that you want a four digit field and it will not removing leading zeros. I would add that pattern to th validate and data pattern as well.

That worked great now do you know how to leave one blank in the middle if need be?

The 9 indicates that there is a digit in that location ......If you change the type of field from numeric to text then you shodul be able to add what ever you want.

Of course you woudl not need a pattern then either.

so there is no other way to allow a space to be left blank?  Now if left blank indesign moves the numbers over.
