How can I format a date field

Hi there - I have a date field called PjStartDate and I would like to ensure that the date entered always formats to DD MON YYYY

How can I do this as an exit event?

The field is a date field and I have tried using display and edit patterns but they don't seem to work. I know I am probably doing something wrong - only just started learning livecycle!

     Use this Pattern ( DD-MMM-YYYY ) in Display and Data Pattern of Date field.
