I ticked the "Allow Custom Text Entry" of my drop down list - but still it is not allowing me to enter any custom text only allowing me to enter what is in the list of the drop down. Please advise.

Hi,
I am not sure I follow - can you give more info?
If you tick "Allow custom text", then it should allow the user to input a value, that is not one of the items in the dropdown. However this does not add the custom text to the items. It only exists for that input.
Do you want the user to be able to add items to the dropdown list?

What I mean that it is not doing what it is supposed to do.. I do not want to add it to the list - just allow the user to write in any text and this is not happening.

I solved it - I just had to Select Preview Type to Interactive Form. Thanks a lot.
