Want to crash Designer? (step-by-step guide)

Hi,

a colleague of mine this morning discovered a nice reproducible Designer bug (one more, actually), which provokes a nice crash. Well... nice, if you SAVED the form you were working on for the entire day.

Here's how to crash Designer:

 • First: SAVE the form you're currently working on (which is what you should always do, at least every 10 seconds, if you are working with LiveCycle Designer... ;-).

 • drag a new button into your form

 • highlight the button's caption

 • open the 'object'-palette

 • in the 'field'-tab look out for a field named 'caption'

 • enter a new caption text

 • click the still highlighted caption of your newly created button

Here you go...

Regards,

Steve

Ok. That probably explains SOME of my crashes. But here's a little tip that can help if you forgot to save every 10 seconds.

If Designer crashes you can recover the last PDF that you previewed by going to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp and finding the most recent pdf with a name such as _12bs10afg3a40f3t7j.pdf. That should be the last version you Previewed.

Rich Ruiz
Novanis

Great!

Well, I suppose, I have to hit the preview tab every 10 seconds then... ;-)

CRASH! That was fun, Steve. I think I'll do that whenever I get frustrated. ;)
