Notification of validation pattern failure?

Is there any way to execute code upon failure of a validation pattern? Specifically, I'm trying to reset the field, and change the focus.

I have also been looking for an answer to this. I need to call a function on the exit event if the user entered pattern isn't correct. Please someone respond!
