Allow custom text entry with a drop down list

I am using designer 7 with FormServer 6.0 and I have a drop down list with Allow Custom Text Entry checked. When I manually type a value into the drop down list and make a server round trip, the ddl loses the value I entered. Is there any way to allow the custom text entry without losing the data?

There is a similar question. Unfortunately, this is a bug. There is a post the discussed a work around for this. Here is the link to that post.
