missing menu after customizing siteadmin columns

Hi,

 

I followed the following link to add a new column http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/developing/customize_siteadmin.html

While a new column was successfully added the problem is that the menu (new, activate, delete) above the columns is now missing. 

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

I would like to follow up that I made a mistake and the menu does indeed show. However what I would like to know is how to only override my custom grid and refer back to the parent for such things as grid/assets, actions and tags. I would like to follow best practice of composition instead of maintaining another copy.
