Blog Template and Community Components for AEM 5.6.1

Avatar

We are running AEM version 5.6.1 and want to utilize the Blog and Community functionality.  However, this doesn't appear to be enabled in our environment.

When creating a new page in an existing site, there is no option to select Blog Template, as indicated here: http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/cq/5-6-1/administering/social_communities/blogs.html#par_par0

Same goes for the Community Components.  We'd like to use the social sign-in, social feeds, etc, but htey don't appear to be enabled.  When I go to http://ourserver/content/community-components/en.html, nothing is found.

I read on Adobe's site that this stuff ships with 5.6.1, but does it need to be enabled somehow?

Thanks!

The new social component framework (SCF) and the community component guide found in AEM 6.0 is available if you upgrade AEM 5.6.1.

See http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/cq/5-6-1/developing/DevelopingWithSocialCommunities.html#Social%20Comm...

The implementation of blogs did not change between the AEM 5.6.1 and AEM 6.0 versions of social communities, but the AEM 6.0 documentation has been modified slightly and may be more helpful.

See http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-0/author/social-communities/create-blog.html

Hope this helps,

A blog is not a component to be dragged onto the page.  It is a template and is handled differently.

We probably posted at the same time ;-), but do see http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-0/author/social-communities/create-blog.html,  it describes how to make the blog template allowed for your site.

I should have been more clear. I wanted you to look for blog component group to be sure that you had the blog specific code.

Thanks JK,

Yeah, I figured that blogging wasn't a dragable component, but the previous poster mentioned the blog component group, so I checked just to be sure.

I can't upgrade to 6.0, so I'm stuck with 5.6.1.  I had already seen the documentation at the link you provided, and that's where I got stuck.  I don't know how to make blogging available.  And even though there's a link about making the blogging template available: at "Before you create a blog, the blog template must be available to your page. (See Template Availability.)"

...I found that page of no help.  After reading that, I was no closer to figuring out how I'm supposed to make it available.

The documentation clearly specifies what do to.

For example -see below.

Did you follow the procedures specified in this topic? Why are you no closer to working with blogs?

Or is your confusion with that information in the template availability topic? (agreed it's only theory - not really task based)

Try following the doc to create the sample blog as specified in these instructions. Let us know if you are able to do that.

CREATING A NEW BLOG

NOTE

Before you create a blog, the blog template must be available to your page. (See Template Availability.)

To create a new blog using the sample blog template :

  • Using the Classic UI on an author instance, open the Websites console.

  • In the explorer pane, select  Websites Geometrixx Outdoors Site > English Community

  • From the tool bar, select  New...New Page... to open the Create Page dialog

  • Enter the display Title for your new page and the node Name if you do not want the default.

  • Scroll down and select the Social blog template.

    file
  • Click Create to create the new blog page.  When opened, the new blog page will appear as follows:

    file

    Hi,

The inability to upgrade to all of AEM 6.0 does not prevent you from obtaining the Social Communities 6.0 features on AEM 5.6.1.   There is a 5.6.1 feature pack for that (version 1.4).  5.6.1 ships with version 1.3.

But that won't affect the Blog.

Would you be willing to provide a sense of your skills and familiarity with AEM and CRX?

In the meantime, if you go to the bottom of the page which provides an example of making the template available to your site, it might make it more clear :

    http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-0/develop/the-basics/templates.html#Example:%20Making%20an%20exi...

If I can get you past that step, then the rest of the "Creating Blogs" page should be helpful.

Oh!  You found a bug in the documentation that I just fixed.

    See http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-0/author/social-communities/create-blog.html#Adding%20Quick%20Re...

In AEM 6.0 social communities, the components of use for the Blog feature moved from the Blog component group to the Communities component group.
