I downloaded the new Natural History Museum app and it did something I haven't seen with AEM. The initial screen had a loading bar and said "Downloading Latest Content". Does anyone know what this is doing exactly? Is it automatically downloading the latest content or is this just at the very first launch of the app? If it is automatically downloading the latest update how did they do it? I think that would be a better alternative than having the user tap "Update Available" every time there is an update. I just think people sometimes see "update available" as a bad experience or a way to slow them down. Thanks in advance!
With the "persistent top-level content" feature introduced a few weeks ago, all the content in the top-level collection is now downloaded and will not be removed from cache. That way, users have access to all the top-level content as well as other cached or explicitly downloaded content when they're offline. I assume that when you opened the Natural History Museum app, the top-level content was being downloaded.
Regarding the "Update Available" prompt, which some people call the "update pill," I'm not sure if there are plans to allow automatic updates.
