Typed/Bookedmarked has more data than other referrers

Hi Guys,

Referring domain report under traffic sources we see there are wide range of data on Typed/Bookedmarked (39,506 Instances) than other domains like google and internal url's (assume 4000 average instances). As we known that there are few reasons for that too getting wide data on Typed/Bookedmarked as I mentioned below.

  • When we type our URL directly into their browser
  • When we book bookmarks our page on your site and references it on later (complete URL with query string)
  • when the image request is not provided any referrer stuff (on the time of server call)

Apart from all the reason mentioned above, is there any other specific reason to get this kind of wide data on Typed/Bookedmarked? Please clarify with me on this request. Thanks for your time!

Dear Jayakrishna,

Why are trying to break down Typed/Bookmarked with medium report (CPC - evar 43)? Any specific need?

If you have marketing channels setup based on the medium, then you should consider that.

Thank You

Arun

Dear Jayakrishna,

You are right. More traffic under typed/bookmark is fine, but if you think it suspicious, check the internal filter once.

Also, can you share the Public URL so that i can check the implementation at high level?

Thank You

thanks for your answer,  I checked and internal URL was added correctly. Could you please let me know what do you mean by Public URL? is it production live URL?

Thanks Jayakrishna,

Implementation seems okay and thus i can say that the numbers are expected to be.

Check the links : Referrer Type , Referrers and Referring Domains

It also says that Mobile Devices without referring domains will also bucket under 'Typed/Bookmarked'.

Thank You

thanks Arun for your assistance. However, we have the full campaign URL with parameters to capture the CPC (cost per click) from the different referrer as shown below. We have seen Typed/Bookmarked takes the huge number as I said earlier. Moreover, when we break down the Typed/Bookmarked with medium report (CPC - evar 43) it has more data and we bit worried about that high numbers due to below concept. We use the metric instance for this report and please find the screenshot for your reference.

Campaign URL - https://www.asdfg.com/?source=BEN&umedium=CPC&uadpub=Bing&ucampaign=HFRGTYH258&ucreative=goodone&uplace=severe&cmpid=1

will my count get increase on every below scenario? if yes, what is the good way to over come on the below flaws.

  1. When we type our URL directly into their browser
  2. When we book bookmarks our page on your site and references it on later (complete URL with query string)

We are trying to break down just to see the medium data for the Typed/Bookmarked (under referring domain). Also, my client is bit worried about the below two scenario as I said on above.

  • When we type our URL directly into their browser
  • When we book bookmarks our page on your site and references it on later (complete URL with query string)

we also have marketing set up rule for the medium parameter which we are using on the campaign.

I got same issue. Suddenly in the month of October, internal traffic increased drastically and typed/bookmarked referring domain has increased a lot. Also no changes made in processing rules as till previous months everything was good. Were you able to figure out the workaround?

Dear James,

Need to login to your account and verify these. If you are okay, kindly ping my inbox. Ready to help!

Most probably because of Marketing Channel Rule update.

Thank You

Arun
