List of Mobile Metrics in Adobe Analytics
•1) First Launches
2) Launches
3) Upgrades
4) Crashes

- First Launces: Triggered at the first run after installation or re-installation.

- Launches: Triggered at every run, including crashes and installs. Also triggered on a resume from the background when the lifecycle session timeout has been exceeded. Default lifecycle session timeout is 300 Seconds.

- Crashes: Triggered when the application is not back grounded before being closed. The event is sent when the application is started after the crash.

- Upgrades: Triggered at the first run after an upgrade or when the version number changes.

Mobile Apps have most of the same standard metrics as websites, such as:

  • Page Views
  • Visits
  • Unique Visitors
  • Entries
  • Exits
  • Bounces
  • Single Access
  • Reloads
  • Time Spent

It does not have Referral Instance, since Referrers aren't currently set in mobile apps (though with Universal Linking, that really should be re-evaluated).

However, Mobile Apps have some "app only" metrics:

  • Launches - when the app is opened, or brought back from the background after the session has expired (it's essentially like a visit.... but if the app crashes and the user re-opens immediately, they will be in the same visit, but a new Launch will be recorded)
  • First Launches - this is almost like an "install" signal... not quite, since the actual install cannot be tracked, and if the user never opens the app, this won't be counted... but this is triggered the first time the app is run after an installation... if the user uninstalls and re-installs, this will trigger again, and they will also be treated like a new Unique Visitor
  • Upgrades - this is triggered the first time the app is opened following a version upgrade
  • Crashes - if the app is "closed unexpectedly" the first time the app is re-opened, a Crash will be recorded. This is why the app Lifecycle metrics (i.e. what controls all of these) should be paused when the app is sent to the background, and restarted when the app is brought to the foreground.... if you don't, and the user swipes the app off the background screen or closes the app via the background, the Lifecycle metrics cannot distinguish the difference between a crash and the user closing the app, and your Crash metrics will be super inflated.

Do you know if these default mobile metrics come through in data feeds?

@jules_st they do.

First Launches, Launches, Crashes and Upgrades are all events and will be included in the events_list.

I believe the mapping is:

First Launches - 700

Launches - 702

Crashes - 703

Upgrades - 701
