Internal IP Exclusion is Not Working to Exclude the Internal Traffic/Users

Avatar

Level 1

Context:
We are trying to block internal traffic for a specific domain using Adobe Analytics. The expectation is that no page URLs or hits from internal users should appear in the Dev Report Suite.

Steps Taken:

  1. Went to Admin >  Exclude by IP.
  2. Selected the Dev Report Suite.
  3. Added our list of internal IPs (public-facing IPs used by me) to the exclusion list.
  4. Configured the domain so that it is captured only by the Dev Report Suite.

Problem:
Even after adding the IPs to the exclusion list, we still see visits and page URLs in the Dev Report Suite. This is unexpected because the Dev environment is only accessible to internal users, and those IPs should be excluded.

Goal:
Ensure that internal traffic is completely excluded from the Dev Report Suite so that no page URLs or hits appear. This is test and trail to exclude the internal traffic/users from our PROD suite. We just want to capture the external traffic/users for our website.

Am I missing any steps in terms of Adobe Analytics to configure/restrict/exclude the internal traffic? Do we want to do any more steps in the tags level? Please do let me know.

Hi @RuttalaLi ,

If the exclusion rules are setup correctly, you shouldn't see the data from those IPs anymore. Please make sure you follow the instructions given in Adobe documentation here https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/analytics/admin/admin-tools/exclude-ip specially the notes section,

Also note that if you are using IP obfuscation then it might be updating the IPs which won't match the IPs list you have in exclusion. Please check these settings once.

Cheers!

Hi @RuttalaLi

are you sure you've added all IPs in your exclusion list? Typically this is a whole range of IPs and maybe you've missed some?

I would reach out to your sysadmins to get a list of IPs to double-check.

To add to what @Harveer_SinghGi1 mentioned about IP obfuscation, here's the relevant part from the link he posted.

  • IP obfuscation enabled: nothing to be considered, your IP ranges should work
  • Removal of the last octet of the IP: make sure to add an asterisk "*" at the end e.g., 111.111.111.*

Like others have said, I have never had a problem with the IP Exclusion... are you sure you excluded your Public IP address, and not your internal Network IP?
