All vs. New vs. Return Visitors to a Specific Page

Hi All,

I know how to get new vs. repeat visitors at a high level. How do I put together a segment and/or view that shows all visitors that hit a page. Then all visitors that hit the page that were new to that specific page. Then I want to show repeat visitors to that specific page as well.

First, for "general" new vs repeat users, I guess this depends on your definition of "new" and "repeat"... if "all-time" new, then Adobe has some pre-made segments called "First Time Visits" and "Return Visits" (based on the all time visit number being 1 or greater than 1).

However, if you want something more like "1 visit within the time frame" and "1 or more visits within the time frame" (basically ensuring that there is no overlap between the segments), then you can create segments using my tips here:
https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/events/the-skill-exchange-recordings/analytics/may2023/ro...

Now the above it based on visits to the site, not on specific pages, so if you use these segments with a Page Breakdown the "New Users" won't be limited to 1 PV per page...  so if you are looking for visitors coming to a specific page, you should be able to create modified segments that build the specific page into the segment... however, if you are looking to create something that can be used on any page (I don't think that is possible).

However, some sample attempts that I have tried don't seem to be working... as I should end up with "1" on PV/UV for my specific page, and I am not. I have noticed that Visitor Segments seem to be acting a little odd lately... not returning data in an expected fashion - particularly when using excludes....  I suspect some logic was changed and something is broken.. but I haven't had a chance to investigate it...

Hi @Jennifer_Dungan,

Thank you for your prompt response. Basically, I'm trying to get a count of repeat users to a given page by monthly breakdown. Basically I try to do that by having a visitor level segment and saying where the user sees the same page in 1 visit and then another visit. What I also don't understand is that I need a page panel segment in order to get the repeat visitors to be an expected number for the repeat visitors. Not sure why I need it since my segment accounts for it? Is trying to break this at a monthly level an issue? Is it counting repeat visitors across all time and then trying to randomly bucket with month? I am just trying to get a repeat visitor count to the page for the given month. Am I going to have to make multiple segments, 1 segment per month? To see when a repeat user happened per month?

For context, the segment is "Page A" in the segment hits. And in the freeform table, the left column is hits to "Page A" and the right column is the segment. The quick segment is just a hit to "Page A", but I don't understand why I need that...

Thanks!
