How to use a report to find duplicated field values?

Hi,

We use a field on a custom form to create a link between projects & salesforce, it generally works well. But from time to time a sales person will enter the same opportunity code into multiple projects, usually because an earlier project used a particular opportunity and that project was wrapped up so they want another go at it.. We do not want this.

 

So i would like to run a Workfront report looking for when their are duplicates in this particular custom field/form. Any ideas how i could do this? Currently i am running a report on all the values in this custom field and viewing all opportunity reference codes in Excel and looking for duplicates but this is not very effective.

 

Is their a way for Workfront to identify duplicates in reports? Maybe as a filter?

Barring any other restrictions you may not have mentioned, I feel like excel would be the best option. If you have any excel nerd in your org, they'd be able to make your spreadsheet a little more efficient in terms of flagging any duplicate values across 3 columns as well as provide you with a filter to more efficiently indicate where this has happened.

this question pops up from time to time, and there's not really a good solve for it at the moment. The solution tends to be like the one in this old post:

(group by the opportunity code and then run a search on any time the summary tab shows more than 1)

 

Can you say any more about how the field was created? is there some way to retire or mark codes that are already used?

I tried the suggestion to report in groups and it sort of helps. However it is possible for the sales person to enter the code in one of three fields.

 

We have three fields in a custom form, opp code 1, opp code 2, opp code 3. This custom form usually starts in a request and then later is converted into a project as the request is reviewed.

 

We have three fields because it is useful to resolve multiple opportunities with a single project. By linking the salesforce opportunity to the Workfront project status we can also populate the project commercial finances by using a push from salesforce. Sometimes however the project is unsuccessful and the sales person uses the same opp code again in another project.

 

However this does not to unlink the original salesforce opportunity from the original Workfront project and thus you get a conflict and why i need a way to see if that code is a duplicate.

Hi,

This has been the best solution we could come up with.  Similar to what Skye has mentioned, but we use the chart to show the "spike" where the item exists more than once.

Ill see if that helps, but i feel might have the same issue as the grouping suggestion which only works if the code is always in the same field.
