Project template or custom form to retrieve info contained on another custom form

This request is from Case: 00145202. There are two different teams that use two different Workfront request forms with very different information on each. Our team would like to "tap into" some of the custom fields on the other team's custom form and retrieve that information to a field on our form. I was told "Workfront only allows you to pull custom data between objects that are related. Because the request is being created as a completely separate object from the project in this scenario, there is no way to reference that request from the project. I understand how this could be a useful functionality, and I would recommend submitting a post to our Idea Exchange so we might be able to implement this in the future."
