Improvements on Rates

Enhance how the product applies rates to resources: eable more granular control by applying differing rates in specific time periods. Or in other words, allow application of new rates without the old rate getting overwritten retroactively.

Would also like the ability to control rates at a portfolio level, since you can have multiple clients / portfolios that have different rates than the standard company rates. Having to override rates at the project level is tedious at best.

For those looking to have Billing Rates not "accidentally update" over time, I invite you to consider creating Billing Records periodically. Once you do, it "locks" the rate (and cost) effective at the time, and preserves them even if the rate (or cost) then changes later and finances are recalculated. You can do so manually, or if that sounds to cumbersome, I invite you to consider our Auto-Bill solution.

As a bonus, once a Project has at least one Billed billing record on it, the Project cannot be accidentally deleted, which is a pleasant side effect.

I agree. It seems incorrect to apply the new rates retroactively to all the hours since inception. This way if the rate changes in 5 years from now, all the hours logged by the resource for 5 years will get multiplied by the new rate. This is especially true of actual costs. Actual costs should be frozen as soon as the hours are approved by the approver. If the rate associated with the person changes later, the actual costs should not change for the approved hours.

Just to add - Billing record solution is not practical for our organization as we have a large number of employees logging times across large number of projects. It is not practical for us to go to each project and create billing records every month.

Agree - We have 1/3 of our hours from last year using this year's rate. Didn't know about the billing record requirement in order to stop this. We should not need to create billing records to stop using the new rate on old data.

This is a key missing piece of Workfront. Rates change over time, however my project financials only reflect the current rates. This is extremely painful for me when a resource moves from India to US or US to India...same resource, however VERY different rates.
