Enhancements to the Dashboard Milestones View

Why is this feature important to you?
Tracking milestones is a critical component of project management within my organization. While the Milestones Dashboard is a great visual tool, its full potential is not being realized due to current limitations in how the data is presented and grouped.

How would you like the feature to work?
I’d like to see greater customization options within the Milestones Dashboard.

Specifically:

 - Program-level grouping: Currently, the view only displays milestones at the project level. It would be extremely helpful to group and filter projects under specific programs to better manage larger initiatives.
 - Team visibility: Include the ability to view which team members are assigned to each milestone or associated task, to improve ownership visibility and resource planning.
Expanded milestone assignment: Enable multiple tasks to be assigned to a single task and make them visible in the dashboard view for better granularity. Many project milestones consist of multiple tasks.

 - A filter or sort function by milestone status

Current Behavior
The current Dashboard Milestones view is a strong visual tool but lacks flexibility. It is limited to a rigid structure that only supports project-level display, without the ability to drill down into team-level or program-level details.

For our instance we decided to use an alternate approach to milestones. It has tradeoffs, but might meet your needs. We created a field on a task-level custom form to identify milestones. A project owner can attach the form to a task and select the milestone from the field. This approach means:

  1. We can build a task report that can identify the program. Unfortunately I'm unaware of any way to group a task report by program, but you can add a column that displays the program name.
  2. You can include a column in your task report that displays the assignments.
  3. You can use the same value of the field across multiple tasks (that is, use the same milestone as much as you need).
  4. Display or filter task status in a report.
