Color attribute for more objects + reference system prefs for default chart colors

There was a lot of excitement when this enhancement was delivered.

While I'm grateful for the added flexibility, there is still a lack of a persistent colors and therefore a lot of effort still goes into getting the right colors for charts. What I would like to see are three things:

  1. Expanded list of objects that can have designated colors

In the same way that you can assign a color to task/issue/project statuses (by group), and priorities/severities; also be able to assign a custom color to

  • Groups
  • Teams
  • Users
  • Conditions
  • Programs
  • Portfolios
  1. Colors from system prefs used in charts

Presuming more object types can get their own custom color, that color value would be used in charts which group by those object types. E.g. if something is grouped by Program, each Program would be represented by its custom color; so on and so on for other groupings/object types.

  1. Dynamic chart colors

When displaying a chart where groupings could be represented by more than one set of custom colors (like project status, but different groups use different colors for statuses), dynamically select the set of colors based on what group the project being reported belongs to.

So, if a project status report, using wildcard filters, is viewed by users from two different groups, one user would see colors and titles that correspond to their group’s preferences, and the other user would see colors and titles that correspond to their group’s preferences. Alternatively, the report designer could manually select which colors should be used to force a specific color palette.

It's great that we can select custom colors, but it takes so much time to bring consistency in how they are used in reporting.

So, it's been said before and I will not argue... sometimes I am a dummy! #3 in this list already behaves the way I described. I am not afraid to admin when I am wrong :)

But, I still would love to see #1 and #2 implemented!
